Day 24: PD Decolonization

The PD day at my practicum school today was centered around decolonizing and Indigenizing education (ft. homemade bannock!). I would love to say this was informative from a theoretical or philosophical standpoint, instead I would say that I learned a lot about how much farther we have to go. In particular, I realize now that this is a much more novel concept for a lot of current teachers (perhaps this can be inferred from the discussion questions, which most teachers I was with had an arduous time thinking about and discussing). Today I learned the art of patience as I worked to share ideas and thoughts in transparent and kind ways; I was equally filled with gratitude for the knowledge I have, ever reminding me of the blessing it is to be surrounded by like minded people in more typical day-today circumstances (i.e. my—mostly chosen—family, colleagues, and mentors).
